Ragnar Relay Running Series

What is Ragnar Relay?

It’s a  long distance, an overnight running to conquer a course over two days and one night,  with a team of friends, colleagues or strangers that will eventually turn out to be friends or family.

What to Expect?

Composed of 6-12 people to endeavor the hardship to finish the race and cries and laugh when it’s done! It is an unforgettable 200-mile experience. One thing, you’ll be exhausted for sure! With a shared van (good thing is you shared the fee other than that will be horrible 🙂

You’ll have less sleep,  a smelly van, I bet you can’t sleep with the comfort you want. But you can share the big space outside.

What is Team?

It’s two days and one night obstacle course 🙂 Where the other teams are having fun and don’t have the longing of making it on the top finishers. They just have to make it to the finish line, that’s it! Though, being on the top is a big BONUS to the team.

There will be scenarios since you don’t know most of your team, but members will gladly accept who you are, you’ll not be judged, and they will welcome you whatever will be.

What to Prepare?

  • Van – it’s best to decorate it, the first and basic in teamwork. Here, where you can go along and learn from other members.
  • Costumes – that would depend on members, but I think to make it more memorable better to have one, further this does not be worn all the time.
  • Recovery Tools – foam rollers for mobility and from tight and fatigued muscles after a long run.
  • Gears – especially lights, headlamps and reflective gear. Light your way and yourself!

Infographic: How to Run Correctly

A simple and direct infographic that everyone needs to know…

How to Run Correctly #infographic http://www.visualistan.com/2014/06/how-to-run-correctly-infographic.htmlaption

An introduction to forefoot and midfoot running:

Center of Gravity

Heel strikes when your strides reach too far from your center of gravity. And Mid/Forefoot striking happens when the foot strike is nearer from your center of gravity.

Focus of Tension

The heel strike straightens the leg for impact this focuses on the heel and knee increasing the risk of injury. And Mid/Forefoot strike focuses the tension on the muscles (due to a bent knee) reducing the risk of injury.

Foot Striking Method:

Heel Strike

  1. Unnatural stress forced on the heel.
  2. Increased tension on the joints.
  3. Stride in front of your center of gravity.

Mid/Forefoot Strike

  1. Tension and stress more equally distributed around the foot.
  2. Engange the muscles on the feet strengthening them.
  3. Stride flows naturally through your center of gravity.

The simple visual that anyone can understand.

Why Ragnar Relay Races?

Simply, an all year round event to different states, that’s one big thing! But the main challenge is the 200(ish) mile relay races and the process from start to end. It’s not simple by just registering yourself on the race especially you’re on your own. It’s a shared run!

But the FUN part is searching or convincing people to be in your group or looking for a group that has a slot for one – and that’s YOU! And what’s the big part? – is to show off you (YOU): sportsmanship, ability, capacity and competitive! And meet a new set of friends.

RAGNAR is a team sport that is an opposite of being a “runner” as supposed to be an individual sport. Where you can experience diversity from what you used to. Vans, costumes, cheering, and most of all less sleep to the point on “NO sleep.”marathon-gif And from  all the miseries are the FUN part – to be in the race, a certainty of a FUN to a new level. Sharing with friends and having loopy conversations to other teams. dgykd

I know things got you stoked which makes you ask: What was I supposed to packRunning (Reflective Vest) in the dark?  How much do I have to spend? No sleep, it’s that a fun part?

For all of the apprehensions and to and fro, running RAGNAR is an incredible experience and one that you MUST have! It’s not being slow or being on the first or the money. It is how we made it on the finish line with the team not letting anyone behind. Winning on how the process came to SUCCESS!
